They are insisting on a recount of the votes in the Metropolitan Municipality of Guatemala

Since last Monday, local residents and workers have rejected the re-election of Ricardo Quinonez of the unitary force, with serious accusations of fraud in the electoral process, presented by various political groups.

In a press conference, CREO’s attorney general, Pablo Duarte, called the fact that annulments are being submitted to the TSE a “conspiracy” and asserted that there was no problem with the court in counting the votes.

However, he commented that there is no article in the law that states that a recount can be requested.

In his opinion, if this process started in the city, it would be transferred to other municipalities, where there were, for example, winning companies with a difference of eight votes with respect to the second place.

Twelve municipalities reported incidents of non-conformity by residents who decried fraud in electing municipal corporations.

Some, in the majority won by the mayors from the official Vamos or Valor party, demanded the presence of police and riot police to quell the demonstrators.

The plenary session of the TSE judges summoned the general secretaries of the political parties the day before asking them to convene with their constituency and supporters to accept the results.

At the meeting, it was found that there were still members of the vote-receiving councils under threat, disappearance, or hiding; In addition, there are many infrastructure damages due to non-conformity.

The judges of the Supreme Elections Court confirmed during the meeting that the statutory times for appeals have expired and the recount number does not exist.

Vos’s party secretary, Carlos Pizarres, criticized the use of two vote-counting systems in the province of Guatemala and described the situation in the country as worrying.
