JERUSALEM, 20 September – Palestinian and international press organizations have filed another lawsuit before the International Criminal Court to investigate the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akle and other Arab reporters by Israeli forces.
The Palestinian Journalists Union and the International Federation of Journalists demanded before The Hague that journalist Ali Al-Samudi, who was injured in the events that caused the death of his colleague Abu Akle, be included in the investigation process.
In this sense, the International Federation of Journalists stated that the plaintiff’s document was submitted “to investigate the killing of Palestinian journalists, including Shireen Abu Akleh.” There is no freedom for the press when journalists work in fear.”
The presentation was attended by the head of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, Nasser Abu Bakr, and the brother of the murdered broadcaster in the West Bank, Anton Abu Akle.
The plaintiff’s appeal joins the lawsuit filed last April with the aim of asking the International Criminal Court to open an investigation into the Israeli occupation forces’ attacks on Palestinian communications.
On September 5, the Israeli army admittedIt is highly likely that the shell was the cause Abu Okla’s death came from Zionist funds allegedly “targeting Palestinian armed suspects.”
However, the Israeli authorities reiterated that they will not take criminal measures in this regard, considering that the soldier acted correctly, because “he misidentified his target and regretted it.”
