Three million Americans have yet to claim a federal Covid-19 stimulus check. Are you on time?

Must Read

You may not believe it, but there are still three million people who have not claimed their federal stimulus check. These “suspended” people were eligible to receive their direct payments in the most complex phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The payment corresponds to 2021, however, there is still time to request a refund. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, an organization overseen by the IRS, has uncovered an interesting economic fact. It turns out that those who qualify will receive a portion of the $4.7 billion in unclaimed refund credits.

An official report published last August discovered how many people can still request their direct payments. Likewise, it has been confirmed that the US has issued more than $930 billion in stimulus checks. This was possible thanks to the American Rescue Plan. Its aim was to ease the cash situation of those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Three direct federal payments

The federal government then sent three direct payments, due to the pandemic that the country was suffering from. The first was $1,200.00 and the second was $600.00. In both cases, it was issued with the approval of then US President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the third check for $1,400.00 was signed by current President Joe Biden.

The three million people pending are known to have filed their tax returns for 2021. However, none of them claimed the Rebate Rebate Credit.

The first thing you need to do is submit your main form and complete the section about redeeming the Refund Credit. People have exactly three years to demand payment, otherwise they will lose their money permanently. The deadline to claim the credit for 2021 is in tax year 2024, which is filed in the spring of 2025.
