Washington, September 23 (EFE). – Louise Fletcher, the actress who played tyrannical nurse Mildred Ratched in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, has died at the age of 88, the family reported Friday.
Fletcher won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1976 for the role, which also earned her international recognition after her hitherto somewhat low-key film career.
Born in Birmingham (Alabama, USA) in 1934 as the second of four children, Fletcher began her acting adventures in the 1950s, primarily participating in productions set in the American West.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, the actress returned to some fame for her television roles in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”, “Picket Fences” and “Joan of Arcadia”.
Fletcher died of undisclosed causes at her residence in Montdauraus, France, with her family. EFE
