They will then visit the archaeological site of Cyrene, which was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1982 and has been on the World Heritage in Danger List since 2016, a visit that will allow for a preliminary assessment of the damage caused by the floods. He added that it will identify structures that need urgent strengthening.
Experts will also inspect other heritage sites in Cyrenaica: the ancient city of Ptolemy and the Hawa Fteh Cave, both included in the Tentative National World Heritage List, as well as the ancient city of Apollonia.
