United has been promoting its basic economy class seats, however, its CEO, Scott Kirby, has indicated that the low-margin low-cost airlines it operates will not be sustainable in the short term and has criticized Frontier for charging $99 for carry-on bags. On the plane door, even if passengers think it matches a personal item.

Kirby said Frontier has taken very aggressive action by charging fees for carry-on bags and giving a commission to its employees to carry them into the hold, and he pointed to the fact that United is working to improve its products.

The CEO also noted that demand for domestic flights will decline significantly in the remainder of the year, so low-cost airlines will face a major crisis, Travel Pulse reported.

Likewise, he commented that United will emerge structurally stronger and more sustainable, and believes customers are willing to pay more for something like basic economy if they know they’ll have more.

As mentioned reportor.usAfter seeing revenue from economy class ticket sales increase by 50% each year, United will increase its seat count. This is a decision that is in line with its strategy of offering a wide range of prices and products on all its aircraft. (United is increasing its average number of seats per plane as base fares rise significantly.)

By 2027, United expects to have an average of 145 North American seats, up from 104 in 2019.
