Vietnam is ready to strengthen a comprehensive partnership with the United States

The Secretary of State, upon receiving here the First Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, Wendy Sherman, who is on a working visit, said the alliance must continue on the basis of mutual respect, independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions.

For his part, Sherman stressed that the United States attaches importance to the comprehensive partnership with the state of Indochina and wants to raise bilateral relations to a higher level.

According to the senior official, the recent visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Washington yielded substantial results, and created an impetus for the development of relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of economy, trade and investment.

He said the United States will continue to cooperate in a profound and responsible manner with the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean region, and further strengthen cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries, so as to effectively exploit the ties between the two sides.

Than Son and Sherman discussed concrete measures to enhance cooperation in the sectors of high-level delegation exchange, epidemic prevention and control, post-COVID-19 social and economic recovery, overcoming the consequences of war, and trade and investment exchange. .

They also discussed international and regional issues of common interest, in particular communication initiatives in the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean region, East Sea issues, sustainable development, increased cooperation regarding education in the Mekong subregion, and the situation in Russia and Ukraine.

The First Deputy Foreign Minister held meetings earlier with Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the CPV Central Committee Le Huai Trong, and Deputy Defense Minister Huang Xuan Chin.
