We tell you how to increase loading speed in Rog Ally games

Must Read

Laptops such as Steam surface of valve and Promote me It has arrived to expand the audiophile experience Mainframe race When they are away from their pantheon and they have also reached the hands of gamers looking for an experience that goes beyond the Nintendo Switch in terms of catalog, graphics and games, although the mini PC in particular from Asos, is somewhat limited by the 512GB storage space, since the operating system and all additional software prevent the installation of many games. In fact, this mod is derived from the experience of making one, as we couldn't even get more than 4 AAA games on this terminal.

Price problem

The Rog Ally comes with a 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 (2230) SSD with an average speed of just over 4200MB/s, however, if you want to expand the space to around 2TB, these units are priced Compared to the (regular) 2280 it is a little more expensive ($40 to $60) and the speed is practically the same. Therefore, we seek to find a better alternative to obtain more space and speed.

Rog Ally Meristation Mod

In this test we decided to take our desire to modify the Rog Ally with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor to the extreme. For this we look for a PCIe c SSD compatible, as was the case with the Kingston Fury Renegade (2280) with a claimed read speed of 7300MB/s and write speed of 7000MB/s.

To implement this modification, we purchased an M.2 0.866×1.181 to 0.866×3.150 vertical adapter that fits perfectly inside the Rog Ally for just $13.

To do this, simply remove the six screws on the back, disconnect the battery and very carefully disassemble the SSD 2230 to be able to place the adapter with the SSD 2280 already installed. When positioned correctly, both the SSD and adapter should be installed at the same point where the SSD 2230 was attached.

Finally we have to reconnect the battery, shut everything down, and replace the six screws to connect the Rog Ally directly to power.

Once turned on, it will send us directly to the BIOS and the new SSD should appear on the first screen. We will have to click on Advanced options and then continue Asus Cloud Recovery. It will ask you to connect it to your preferred network and the process will begin. It is important to note that the reinstallation time may be a little longer than for a clean format Windows, but it is worth it.

results

Since we reinstalled everything and updated both the operating system, drivers, and custom software for Rog Ally, we ran speed tests with CrystalDiskMark and got the following results.

As we can see in the table, we improved the read speed by 63%, reaching 7048.13MB/s with a write speed of 5694.14MB/s. All of this was reflected in the loading times of most of the games we installed with a saving of nearly $50.

We hope that this little tutorial will help you increase the storage space and, above all, the loading speed of your favorite games.
