DETROIT — Ryan Criddler scored twice on his major league debut, including winning Harold Castro’s swipe-out song in the seventh inning, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas Royals 5-4 Friday night.
Criddler, who was promoted the day before from Triple-A Toledo, walked twice.
Puerto Rican Javier Paez hit a wreck from two runs and Puerto Rican Willie Castro scored three hits, including a solo shot. Detroit snapped a three-game losing streak.
Andrew Chavin (1-2) took the 1-1/3 relief round win with no goals. Gregory Soto hit all three hitters in the ninth inning for his 24th save.
Shot by Michael A. Taylor penalty kick for the Royals, who lost three times in a row, Carlos Hernandez (0-4) took the loss.
In the seventh inning with two, Harold Castro escaped to the left side who scored Criddler.
For the Venezuelan Tigers Victor Reyes 3-1, it produced one; Miguel Cabrera 2-0 and Harold Castro 1-1, one RBI. Puerto Rican Javier Paez 3-1, one inning, two RBIs, and Willie Castro 4-3, one inning, one RBI.
For the royal family, Venezuelans Salvador Perez scored 2-0 and Sebastian Rivero 0-0.
