A woman died Sunday after a suspected hit-and-run driver at Complex 4200 off Annandale Road in Fairfax, Virginia, police said.
According to the investigation, while the woman was walking out of the footpath, she was hit by a vehicle traveling slowly in the northbound travel lanes. However, the authorities indicated that the driver did not stop to help her.
“When the officers responded, the ambulance was able to take this run-down woman to the hospital where she unfortunately died (…) The officers in charge are still working on this case. Unfortunately, we still don’t have the driver because He was running away.”
A witness noticed a small white SUV or sedan parked in the area at the time of the accident and then drove away. Investigators continue to search the area to identify the vehicle and clarify this fact.
With this incident, there are already 14 violations in Fairfax alone this year so far. However, despite the fact that it is a heavily pedestrianized area, some of them deplored that the area does not have adequate traffic lights and that there is no way to cross it.
“There are some cars that go very fast, and do not respect the laws, which is why accidents happen. That is why it is always better to wait for the car to pass so that you do not have an accident,” explained passer-by Mayor Salazar.
The authorities have not yet released the victim’s name but are urging the community to cooperate in clarifying the case.
